Edna Mae (Erskine) Cole

October 22, 1940 - November 26, 2018

Edna Mae (Erskine) Cole Salisbury Beach - Edna Mae (Erskine) Cole, age 78, died peacefully at her home in Salisbury, with her devoted family by her side, and was joyfully reunited with her husband, Ralph J. Cole, who died July 19, 2012.
Born in Bath, Maine on October 22, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Hazel (Jones) Erskine and was a graduate of Hudson High School. She spent much of her childhood living in many locations throughout New England, as her father supervised construction of our area’s first interstate highways.
For over four decades, Edna worked for Raytheon, while continuing her college education to advance to the position of Logistics Specialist. With Raytheon, she traveled throughout the country supporting government contracts with the military. Edna, a longtime resident of Salisbury, was also active in her community, serving on the Salisbury Charter Commission, and giving much of her time volunteering at The Pettengill House and Leeward Lights.
Edna and her husband Pete’s love of the beach inspired them to make their permanent home on Salisbury Beach in the 1980’s. They quickly made lifelong friendships with neighbors, watching their children grow together, vacationing around the world, tailgating at sporting events, and spending long summer days on the beach.
As a loving wife, mother, and very proud grandmother, her life was all about family, sharing special times together, from holidays, graduations, to family vacations and fulfilling bucket lists. Edna was an avid reader, who could be seen by a pool in the Bahamas, or under her umbrella on Salisbury Beach, engrossed in a novel. It truly was the simple things in life that brought her the most joy.
Her life will always be treasured by her family: daughter, Jeanne Cassavant and husband, Kenneth; grandsons, Kenneth Jr., Andrew, and Brent; nephew James and his wife, Amy; brother, Charles; sister, Wilma (Billie), along with extended family, and dear friends, Denis and Ann Champagne, and their children, Theresa and Denis Jr. and his wife, Erica, and their children, Celeste, Gabrielle, Sydney and Pierce.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 30th, at Seaglass Restaurant, 4 Ocean Front N, Salisbury Beach, MA at 1 p.m. Arrangements are by Elliot, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Anna Jaques Community Health Foundation (AJCHF), with a memo noting the gift is in memory of Edna Mae Cole, 25 Highland Avenue, Newburyport, MA 01950.

Steve and I are very sorry for your loss. We only recently got to know Edna as her new neighbors at the beach. We are so grateful for how welcomed we felt by Edna and her offers to help us out in any way. She will be missed by all in the neighborhood and we feel fortunate to have met her even if only for a short time.
