Diane's Story

Text size

NEWBURYPORT, MA - Diane left us all too soon on December 23, 2017, after fighting a courageous seven-month battle with cancer. Born September 5, 1965, she grew up in Marysville, Wash., where she loved playing in the woods and on the beach, boating with the family in the San Juans and fishing in Conconully in Eastern Washington.
Diane graduated from the University of Washington and embarked on a career in the clothing and fashion industry as a buyer and project manager for Eddie Bauer, The Limited Corp., Van Heusen, and Bennett and Co. She traveled all over the world in her various positions and enjoyed seeing different countries and experiencing different cultures.
Settling in historic Newburyport, Mass., she purchased an 1811 Federalist house that she poured her heart into. She filled her home with beautiful antiques and lovingly tilled her flower garden, which was featured one year in the Newburyport Garden Tour.
Diane was a collector, a purveyor and maker of beautiful things. In addition to growing a stunning garden she carefully collected and curated sets of beautiful antique silverware. And those who were recipients of her meticulously decorated cakes and cookies knew they had something special. Diane had a quick wit and sense of humor, making her a fun person to be around.
Diane leaves behind the joy of her life, her son, James "Jimmy" Gore. She also leaves her parents, Jim and Lois Drake; sister, Stacy Drake McCredy (Shawn); nephew, Max McCredy; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
One would be lucky to go through life with the kind of friends Diane had. So many individuals were there for her during this difficult illness, and we thank each of you for loving Diane like family. We would also like to thank our extended family and friends for their help during the last seven months.
Friends and family are invited to join a celebration of Diane's life on February 24 at 2 p.m. at the Marysville Opera House, 1225 3rd St., Marysville, Wash. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Greater Newburyport Ovarian Cancer Awareness Group (www.ocawareness.org) or other cancer association.
