NEWBURYPORT - Colleen Patricia Honohan, a resident of Newburyport for more than 20 years, peacefully passed away after a long illness, surrounded by family on Sunday, January 7, 2018.
Born in Methuen, she was the beloved daughter of Clare (Bradley) Honohan and the late Robert L. Honohan Sr. Colleen graduated from St. Mary's High School in Lawrence and continued her education, earning a Master's degree from Salem State University. For the past 15 years, Colleen worked for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a House Manager and as a Manager of Desktop Support.
Colleen was a superior athlete and was inducted into the Salem State University Hall of Fame for tennis, and later went on to coach the Merrimack College varsity tennis team. She was also a talented musician and singer who performed throughout the Newburyport and Boston areas. Colleen was a lifeguard for many years at Salisbury Beach, where she developed a love of the northern Massachusetts seacoast and spent many hours walking its beaches with friends and family.
Besides her mother, Clare, Colleen is survived by her sister, Katy Honohan of Manchester, N.H.; twin sister, Nancy Anne Honohan of Boston; brother, William Honohan of Boston; brother and sister-in-law, Robert L. Honohan Jr. and Ella Honohan of Lexington; nieces, Emma and Anna Honohan; nephew, Lucas Honohan; loving partner, Charles Gennis of Wenham; several aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.
Colleen was kind, generous, funny, beautiful, loving and thoughtful. She will be deeply missed by her mother, loving partner, family, friends, and those who had the fortune of knowing her.

Relatives and friends may call on Friday, January 12, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, St. Augustine Chapel, 128 Ames St., Lawrence. The funeral will be followed by internment at St Mary's-Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, where Colleen will be buried alongside her father.
