Charles Andrew's Story
Charles Andrew Swanson, M.D., 68, of Boxford, passed on Monday evening, October 23, 2017, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston.
Born in Reading on January 19, 1949, the son of the late Harold A. and Dorothy (Luce) Swanson, he attended Reading High School and completed his college at M.I.T. Following M.I.T. he attended Stanford School of Medicine and specialized in dermatology. He completed his dermatology residency through Brown University’s affiliate Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital.
He overcame his lifelong disability of Aspergers Syndrome to become a respected member of the medical community. His medical expertise as a diagnostician was appreciated by all those who knew him.
As a Board Certified dermatologist, he went into private practice in 1980. Throughout his three year battle with cancer, he continued to provide ongoing care for his patients.
His hobbies included hiking, botany and geology. His interest in gardening could be well appreciated by the manner in which plants were apparent in his office.
He leaves behind his only sibling, Stephen J. Swanson of Reading, along with many caring friends and associates.
Calling hours at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, will be Thursday, Oct. 26th, from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will be private.
