Carole Thornell's Story

Text size

Carole Thornell Porter, 70, of Danville, N.H., passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016, peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones.
Carole was born in Amesbury on April 4, 1946, to the late Everett F. and Barbara Leathers. She graduated from Amesbury High School in 1964. She married her high school sweetheart and husband of 40 years, the late George P. Thornell.
Carole spent her life's work as a nurse caring for the residents at Amesbury Village nursing home where she was well know for taking residents home with her for the holidays when they had no family of their own. It was for her sharp wit, huge heart, and great sense of humor that made her everyone's favorite at work. Her unwavering love for her family and her perfect ability to cheer everyone up with just a smile were just a few of her best qualities.
She enjoyed mornings on the lake in Danville, her retirement home in Florida, spending time with her three children, eight grandchildren, her sweetheart dog, Luna, and her husband, Dave, with whom she shared so many loving memories. She specially loved her trips to Graceland to visit her beloved Elvis. The only thing Carol enjoyed more than a good Elvis tune was one sung specially to her by her younger brother, Ronnie and his guitar.
Carole is survived by her husband, David Porter; her three children, daughter, Lisa Leary and husband, Chris of Plaistow, N.H., daughter, Tracy Bickum and husband, Dave of Danville, N.H., and son, Jeffrey Thornell of Bradford, Mass.; her brothers, David Leathers and wife, Linda, and Ron and wife, Jan; eight grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and very special friends. She was predeceased by her younger brother, Kevin Leathers.
Calling hours for Carole will be held this Friday, December 2, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with a reflection service at 12 p.m. at the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., Amesbury, MA. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Amesbury.
