SALISBURY, MA - Barry M. Silva, 58, of Salisbury, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018, in Tufts Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness. He is the devoted fiancé of Mindy Moore with whom he has shared eight years of friendship and love with. He is the husband of the late Cynthia (Dash) Silva.
Barry was born September 25, 1959, in Gloucester. He is the son of Robert Silva of Gloucester and the late Judith (Leino) Silva. Barry has resided in Salisbury for the past 20 years. He previously resided in Gloucester and was a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1976.
He was a member of the National Guard for many years.
Barry treasured the time he spent with his family and friends. He always knew how to make someone laugh; he will always be remembered for his wonderful personality. Barry loved the outdoors, going to the beach, camping, kayaking; he ice-climbed Crawford Notch, Frankenstein Cliff. He hiked many of New England's highest peaks and enjoyed rock climbing. He was an avid New England sports fan, a music lover and avid concert-goer, he especially liked Grateful Dead. Barry was very talented with his hands and could build almost anything.
He worked in the construction industry, where he worked on the Big Dig, as well as with MCB Construction, and was a former member of the Local 56 for several years. He also worked in Gloucester on the reconstruction of the boulevard.
In addition to his dad Robert and his fiancé Mindy, Barry is survived by his two daughters, Amanda Curcuru and her husband James of Gloucester, and Amy Silva of Salisbury. He is also survived by his three sisters, Roberta L. Cousins and her husband Richard, Cindy Clayton and her husband Rick, and Jennifer Verga, all of Gloucester; as well as his grandson Camryn Moody; and his nieces, Monique Verga and Rebecca Groves; his nephews Jacob Verga and Rick Clayton; his great-niece Maddison Groves; and many great friends.
Barry's visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester, on Saturday, March 10, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. There will be a Celebration of Barry's life immediately following at his home in Salisbury. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
