Barbara M.'s Story
Barbara was a "Beacon" for Plum Island in the preservation of the old cherished values of years past. She was a "shining light" who led the way saving the cultural aspects of the Island. An inspiration and driving force in the establishing the use of the Plum Island Lighthouse for all to enjoy. She worked tirelessly to get the U.S. Coast Guard to turn ownership of the lighthouse over to Friends of Plum Island Light. Her amazing journey started by working at Kezer's Boat Livery, the family business. Whether she was selling tickets, rowing passengers out to boats, sandeeling and skiff cleaning, she was ahead of her time. She was a founding member of the Plum Island Mothers Club Association, past chairwomen of the Old Yankee Homecoming Plum Island Day, active member of the Plum Island Taxpayers Association, and owner of Port Properties Real Estate from 1974 to 2016.
