Arlene T.'s Story
Arlene Wallaga, a lifelong Amesbury resident, passed away on September 24, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House with her loving family at her side. She was born in Amesbury on December 11, 1932, daughter of the late Jeremiah and Annonciade (Pichette) Doherty.
Arlene was a retiree of a local retail store having worked for many years as their bookkeeper and office manager. She was a member of the St. Jean Social Club, as well as member of the St. Jean Drill Team as a young woman. As a member of the Sacred Heart Church, now Holy Family Parish, she sang as a member of their choir for many years. In her later years, she was active with the Amesbury Senior Center as a volunteer. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and was an avid reader. She enjoyed spending summers in Vermont with her husband, Tony.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Anthony; her children, Anthony J. Wallaga, Jr. of Kennsington, N.H., Theresa Wening of Marshfield, Mass., Pauline George of Etna, Maine, Linda Wallaga of Amesbury, Mass., Christina Wallaga of Amesbury, Mass., Donald Wallaga of Boston, Mass.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also left survived by two brothers, Donald and Francis Doherty; predeceased by sisters, Mary Benjamin and Margaret Quinn and brother, Alvin Doherty.
Calling hours for Arlene will be held on Thursday, Sept. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., Amesbury. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 29, at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Family Parish Church, 2 School St., Amesbury, followed by interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Holy Family Parish Hall.
