Ann Christine (DeBalsi) Chace, 90, of Swansea for the past 63 years, died on Thursday, January 26, after a brief illness. She was the loving wife of the late Raymond John Chace, Sr., who passed in 2010.
Born in Barrington, R.I., on October 1, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Guiseppe and Lucia (Christoffano) DeBalsi.
Mrs. Chace worked as a secretary for Milliken Apartments, the Washington Insurance Company, Furtado Service Station, and the Wilbur School in Somerset. She attended St. Francis of Assisi Church in Swansea.
Ann was better known for her enjoyment of cooking, baking, shopping and going to Bingos. Ann was passionate about helping others in any way that she could. One example was her long time volunteer work with Massachusetts Special Olympics. Her greatest passion, however, was her devoted love and care of her family. Whatever Ann did, it was done with passion and will.
She is survived by two sons, Raymond J. Chace, Jr. and his wife, Nancy of Swansea, Mass., and Michael J. Chace and his wife, Maggie of Amesbury, Mass.; three daughters, Lucy E. Burke and her husband, Bill of North Providence, R.I., Lori A. Blackburn and her late husband, Tom of North Providence, R.I., and Paula J. Chace of Swansea, Mass.; one sister, Christine Sturm of Barrington, R.I.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Rose Richardson and sister-in-law of the late Floyd Richardson and William Sturm. She was proud of all of her family.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017, at 9 a.m. from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi, 530 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence, RI. Visiting hours, Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Ann’s wish was to continue helping others and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Raymond and Ann Chace Scholarship Fund, c/o Michael Chace, 3 Vernon Dr., Amesbury, MA 01913.
