Alfred W. "Duney"'s Story
Alfred W. “Duney” Rogers, age 90, lifelong West Newbury, resident, passed at his home on Thursday morning, April 27, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 61 years of the late Beatrice M. (Wheaton) Rogers, who died March 29, 2011.
Born in West Newbury at the family homestead on May 7, 1926, he was one of eight children of the late Charles S. and Nina (Rowell) Rogers and attended schools in West Newbury.
With the onset of World War II, Mr. Rogers enlisted in the United States Army on August 7, 1944, honorably serving his country until his discharge on July 10, 1946, with the rank of Private First Class.
For many years “Duney," as he was known by all, worked at the Boston Felt Company in Rochester, N.H. as a foreman.
He leaves behind countless memories of a life filled with hard work, love from his family, and pride for his granddaughters and his great-grandsons, who filled his life with love and excitement.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Suehowicz and husband, Martin; his son, David A. Rogers and wife, Debbie; two granddaughters, Trisha Lewis and husband, Dave, and Krista Niles and husband, Alex; five great-grandsons, Tyler, Will, Ryan, Andrew and Noah; along with several generations of nieces and nephews, extended family members and many friends. He will be missed by them all. His predeceased siblings are Ruth Bill, Elizabeth Bill, Albert Rogers, Marion Whalen, Olive Rogers, Clayton Rogers and Samuel Rogers.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held Monday, May 1, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Bachelor Street, West Newbury. There will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are by Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport.
